WHY MONITOR SEWER LEVELS and FLOW ?
Remote monitoring of sewer level in underground pipes and channels reduces maintenance costs, prevents environmental disasters, responds to regulatory requirements and allowsquantization of sewer flow for costing purposes. Utility teams are sent at the right time to the exact spot for preventive and periodic maintenance. Overflow conditions are detected prior to catastrophic urban floods. Irregular flow to a sea or lake can be detected on time and prevented. Measuring sewer flow aids in charging industrial plants for releasing excessive waste into the public domain.
A COMPACT SEWER LEVEL SOLUTION
All solution components: level sensor, GSM transmitter, battery pack and electronics are embedded inside the sewer beneath the manhole. No external data cables or power cables are required, resulting in low installation and maintenance costs. Communication is based on cellular (GSM) transmissions, available anywhere with no need for a dedicated RF infrastructure and no need for frequency licenses.
A ROBUST SEWER LEVEL SENSOR
The level sensor is non-contact and avoids continuous interaction with aggressive fluids inside the sewer. There are no moving parts - a significant advantage when compared with mechanical floats. The sensor material is made of PVDF - rigid and highly resistance to chemicals. Equipment is seal-rated IP68, allowing short flooding events without need for repair. Battery enclosure may be installed high above the sensor, reducing flooding incidents and allowing easy access for battery replacement.
A FLEXIBLE SEWER MONITORING
Fielded sensors are pre-configured for message report rates any may also be set for level-adaptive rates: low rate at low levels and rapid message rate at high critical levels. A variety of alert messages may be activated to detect overflow, low flow, sewage at high temperature sewage and more. Installed sensors can also be configured over-the-air with SMS commands, simplifying reconfiguration and final adjustments. Reported data includes level, distance, flow, temperature, battery state, cellular signal strength (RSSI) and alert indications.
AN INTRINSIC SAFE SEWER SENSOR
Explosive Atmosphere: Where explosive gasses are present, such as high concentration of Methane in a sealed space, a sensor model certified for explosive atmosphere is available. This model is rated Intrinsic Safe by both ATEX and IECEx for the most hazardous environments. Unlike alternatives, SolidAT solution is certified for use in explosive atmosphere as a complete system including the sensor, battery pack and timer switch. SIM card may even be inserted in the explosive zone. GSM communications are also certified in this hazardous location.
REMOTE MONITORING APPLICATION
Fielded units may be monitored with GaugerNET, a SolidAT Web remote monitoring application or with third party monitoring solution. With GaugerNET, data is logged for months and years. Sewer state is presented in charts, tables and map. The figure demonstrates daily behavior with morning surge, low sewer flow late at night and a rain event.
